Hello everyone!

I bought my first freeride shortboard of 120L which works beautifully with my 5.5 and 6.5 sail. However, I'm now much more comfortable in 4.5 weather and have been sailing on the sea with chop - which my board doesn't like very much!

I'm now looking at a JP Freestyle/Wave board but I'm not sure what volume I'd be best at buying. I'm looking at 84L and 92L which I'll be using this on inland lakes aswell as the sea. I'd like a board that I could uphaul incase the wind drops.

I weigh 62kg :) would 84L be too light?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello Hollie!

Great you consider using a smaller board - you will LOVE it, that's for sure.
Nevertheless my feeling is, that the 92L board would be a better choice.

Why?
Earlier planing and you could even try your 5.5 with it.
Uphauling would of course be easier, too. Same for jibes.
The step you take would still be 28L minus compared to your other board!, and that will be enough of a (joyful, but also challenging) experience. :-)

Just my thoughts!

Hi Alice!

Thanks so much for your thoughts :)

Sorry to be a pain again! I was just wondering if length and width plays a big part aswell as volume?

My JP X-Cite 120 - L 258cm, W 69cm
JP Freestyle/Wave 93 (oops thought it was 92!) - L 241, W 60 cm
JP Freestyle/Wave 85 - L 239, W 59

Out of interest what volumes do you sail? :) Thanks again for the quick reply Alice!

Hi Hollie,

Welcome! :-)
Length and width do play a role, but you won't feel one cm up or down (same for 1 liter up down).
My favorite board is a wave/freestyle, too, actually with 80L (but I am a lightweight, too :-)

Hope that helps, keep us updated on your progress.
